Outfit Of The Week 2/25/24 – 3/2/24
This week’s edition of “OOTW” is a very simple ensemble I wore to the office recently.
One of the challenges with dressing for my office is the unpredictability of the temperature of the room we are all in. It’s quite a small space. If the office is packed that day, it can be quite hot and stuffy. Conversely, if not many people are in, and the air conditioning is cranking, it can be rather chilly.
That is why I chose to wear a heavy, tweed sport coat over an oxford shirt. I decided not to wear a sweater underneath my sport coat, even though it was a cold day, specifically so that I could doff the sport coat if the office was too hot.
Also, the sport coat I wore was thick and fully-lined for maximum warmth should the office be too cold.
It was a lot to consider, and it turned out that the office was cooler than normal. I kept the sport coat on throughout the day and was perfectly comfortable.
Not much needs to be said about my sport coat. I have mentioned it many times in this space. It’s my go-to sport coat for pretty much everything in cooler weather. It’s a Harris Tweed, grey, herringbone from Brooks Brothers.
As I stated earlier, it’s fully-lined so it blocks the wind very well if I wear it as outerwear. The fit can be considered pretty classic “American”. It’s a bit boxy in the body and the shoulders are fairly soft. It doesn’t have that nipped waist, long skirt, and square shoulders of a more “British”-style jacket. I actually like both styles very much, but they definitely feel different from each other.
My pocket square was a lovely wool and silk blend from Poszetka. It’s mostly orange, blue, and green and even though it’s rather busy, I find that it’s one of my most versatile squares. It looks great with almost any of my jackets and the pattern is perfect for fall and winter.
My shirt was a light blue, Hyde Park, oxford-cloth button-down from Lands’ End.
My pants were khaki chinos, also from Lands’ End.
My shoes were my trusty Beckett Simonon Dunham Derbies. There was some ice and slush on my commute, so I needed shoes with a rubber sole.
My watch was my new Lorier Zephyr. The reddish/tan strap looked great with my tweed jacket!
For outerwear, I wore my double-breasted, wool/cashmere overcoat from J. Crew. For overcoats, I always go with double-breasted, since the extra layer of fabric across the front of the body provides more protection from the cold.
My scarf was my red, plaid, lambswool scarf from Blarney Woollen Mills in Dublin, Ireland.
To top it all off, I wore my grey, herringbone cap. I did not purposely match my hat to my sport coat!
What I loved so much about this outfit was the simplicity, ease, and comfort! I talk a lot about how you should feel comfortable in your clothes and part of that is finding a “uniform” of sorts that suits your needs and preferences. I feel so at ease when I throw on khakis, an OCDB, and a tweed jacket and I feel like it contributes to me looking my best.
Have a wonderful weekend!
