Outfit Of The Week 7/28/24 – 8/3/24
The outfit I would like to highlight this week is what I wore during my oldest son’s birthday recently. I was too busy to snap any actual pics of myself, so this one of me cutting the cake will have to do. Also, if you’re wondering why I always blot out the faces of my children (and other people’s children) in all of my pictures, it’s because I don’t want to put pictures of kids online without their permission.
There are two specific things I like about this outfit.
One, is the striped, cotton shirt. My wife bought me this shirt for Father’s Day and it has quickly become one of my favorites. It’s not as light as some of my other summer shirts, but it adequately blocks the sun from going through the shirt and the collar is large enough to provide even more sun protection when turned up.
If you’re wondering why I am so particular about sun protection, it’s because I have been burned more than a few times and never want to experience it again.
I also like that the shirt tail isn’t so long that I can’t wear the shir untucked, which is what I did here.
The second thing I like about this outfit was my choice of footwear. I decided to wear my pair of grey, canvas, Sperry boat shoes. The shoes are probably ten years old and I highlighted them some time ago in my article about the most versatile shoe.
I haven’t worn these shoes much this summer, simply because I didn’t feel like digging them out of the closet. But, I wanted to give my navy, leather boat shoes a break so I swapped these in.
Isn’t it funny how you remember how much you like something when you haven’t worn it in a while? These shoes are so well broken-in that they feel like slippers. Maybe it’s because I used them as weightlifting shoes for many years. The insole is cloth which is stitched to the shoe so it hasn’t come apart the way the leather footbed has on my navy pair (which is an infuriating design flaw on the Sperry Gold Cups, by the way). They also feel lighter and breezier than any other pair of shoes I own.
For my pants, since it was hot, I wore my linen chinos from The Territory Ahead. Unfortunately, since I wrote my review of them, they have started to fall apart, which isn’t great. There are holes forming above the back pockets and in the crotch. It’s unfortunate because I really like them, but I would be hesitant to buy another pair.
And, of course, to top it all off… I wore my Panama hat. My mother commented on how well-worn the hat looks. It’s sweat stained and has developed a pretty major crack in the crown. However, I think the wear and tear adds to its character! In my opinion, summer straw hats should be inexpensive and used often!
Have a wonderful weekend!
