Outfit Of The Week 12/1/24 – 12/7/24
As I promised last week, this week’s edition of “OOTW” features what I wore on Thanksgiving Day!
I mentioned in the last installment that I created a tradition last year of wearing my navy bulldog tie on Thanksgiving and my green bulldog tie on Christmas. So, even though we were only heading over to my sister’s house for Thanksgiving (which was not a formal affair), I still wanted to continue this rather nascent tradition, so that’s what I did.
Initially, my wife and I were planning on taking our Christmas card photos before we left. Unfortunately, it was snowing pretty hard that morning so we decided to forego the pictures in order to get on the road as quickly as we could. The drive was a bit hairy but we, thankfully, made it to my sister’s house safely.
Given the weather, I wanted to wear something warm and protective for a jacket. I chose my tweed jacket from Aran Sweater Market. It was perfect for getting the boys strapped into their car seats while the snow came down on me, as it’s thick and very warm. I also had my trusty Akubra Federation IV fedora to help with that.
My pants were a pair of khakis from Lands’ End.
For my footwear, because it was snowing heavily, I wore my fur-lined Ugg boots. Not the most stylish choice, but sometimes you need to go with function over form. When we arrived at their house, we obviously removed our snowy boots and shoes. I then put on a pair of slippers.
Over my tweed jacket I wore my wool-lined, L.L. Bean barn coat. This coat worn over a tweed jacket is kind of like the American equivalent of wearing a Barbour jacket over tailoring.
One more detail that made me smile was the tie clip I wore. It was the same tie clip that my sister and brother-in-law gave all the groomsmen on their wedding, so I was happy that I could wear it to their house.
Also, tie clips are excellent for when you need to wrangle children while looking put-together.
Despite the treacherous drive, the day was absolutely lovely. My sister made an amazing meal, the boys were relatively well-behaved, and we all had a splendid time.
Have a wonderful weekend!
