Outfit Of The Week 12/8/24 – 12/14/24
This week’s edition of “OOTW” features an outfit I wore during a recent family outing.
My wife and I took the boys on a “Santa Train Ride”. It was an old-timey train decorated for Christmas and the staff served hot chocolate and cookies as the train rumbled through the countryside. Santa and Mrs. Claus made an appearance and handed out candy canes.
Honestly, it was rather pleasant, although there wasn’t much to do for the kids after Santa passed by. They all started getting a little antsy by the end.
All in all, it was amusing, but I’m not sure we would do it again.
For my outfit, I wanted to dress up a little to make it feel special for the children (because that’s important). I also wanted to incorporate some Christmas colors into the mix.
My jacket was my grey, herringbone tweed from Brooks Brothers, which provides an excellent background for pretty much anything. This style of jacket is also perfect if you want to dress up a little but don’t want to elicit the dreaded “Woah, why are you so dressed up?!” reactions.
A tweed sport coat is ten times better than all those “casual” sport coats you see out there. It’s also one of the things women want to see you wearing!
My sweater was a green, merino, v-neck from Orvis. In order to channel the Christmas vibe, I paired the sweater with a predominantly red pocket square (from Brooks Brothers).
My pants were simple khakis, as I wanted to let the jacket/sweater/pocket square combination take center stage.
Footwear in the cold weather is always tough. There is the desire to balance utility with style. In this case, utility won. I wore my burgundy work boots, as it had recently snowed.
Over everything, I threw my L.L. Bean barn coat and my brown, tweed cap.
All together, it was a very comfortable way to celebrate the day!
Have a wonderful weekend!
