Outfit Of The Week 4/6/25 – 4/12/25

This week’s edition of “OOTW” features an outfit I wore over two days recently for an in-person office visit and a dentist appointment.

The highlight of the outfit is the tweed, herringbone sport coat from House of Bruar. This jacket is one-third of the three-piece suit my wife bought for me last summer. I’ve worn it as a full suit and as separates a handful of times since then and it has quickly become one of my favorite wardrobe pieces.

The reason why I wanted to feature it here is because this is the first time I have worn it with khakis. That’s significant because I originally thought the jacket wouldn’t work too well with lighter tan pants (given the similarity in shade), as opposed to darker pants which provide more contrast.
Sometimes even those of who are pretty experienced with menswear assume things won’t go together without all that much evidence. We make snap decisions about garment pairings before we actually try those combinations in the real world to see if our assumptions are actually accurate. I was guilty of that with this sport coat when thinking about pairing it with khaki pants because I automatically thought that the light-brown color of the jacket wouldn’t look sufficiently different from the khaki colored pants.
What I discovered, however, was that the jacket looks excellent with khakis! The color variations in the cloth, along with the herringbone pattern, ensure there is enough contrast between the two pieces.

That just shows that, while you should often listen to your gut about what you think goes together, sometimes you really need to take the outfit for a spin before you can be sure.
For my office day, I wore this outfit with a blue-and-white stripe OCBD. For my trip to the dentist, I wore my old, beat-up, blue OCBD.
The city was sunny-yet-breezy, so I wore my navy overcoat and grey cap (which were perfect for relaxing by the river while I killed time before my appointment).

Have a wonderful weekend!
