Outfit Of The Week 6/29/25 – 7/5/25

Happy July 4th, everyone!
This week’s edition of “OOTW” is about as American as one can get: a navy blazer with gold buttons from Brooks Brothers, an oxford-cloth, button-down shirt, and a pair of khaki pants.

What some people call “boring” I call “classic” or “understated”.
This outfit is very simple and yet incredibly enjoyable! I decided to wear it recently for a recent office appearance and dentist appointment.
I wore the outfit over two days and the only things I changed up (other than my underwear) were my shirt (white and then light blue) and my pocket square.

New York City was about 90 degrees on those particular days which meant I needed to take off my jacket for a decent chunk of the day. Not a problem, though, as I was able to cool off in the shade near the river as I waited for my dentist appointment.

I always find that this blazer looks better in person than it does in photos. Whenever I catch a glimpse of myself in a mirror, I always think “Wow, this looks great!” But then I look at the pictures I took in that same mirror and think “Hmm.. not as great as I thought.”

I feel that’s pretty common, though, and honestly, I would rather something look better in person than in pictures.
With this blazer, the shoulders are a little wonky, but that’s more to do with MY equally wonky shoulders than anything with the blazer. The body of the jacket could be let out, though, as my tailor went a little too tight especially around the lats (I got it tailored before I started doing lots of pull-ups). Also, I could probably lengthen the sleeves a little.
These are all little judgements I make after looking at the pictures. But then I’ll wear the jacket again and feel good about it all over again.
One more thing about this jacket… I am actually not all that thrilled with the overall construction. It’s from Brooks Brothers and it’s their “1818” line. I got it for $248 on a steep sale about four years ago. After wearing it about a dozen times, the lining started falling out (which I had to have my tailor fix). I also noticed the other day that the collar of the jacket is quite thin in the back which allows for the felt underside to show.
Surprisingly, with all these perceived flaws, I actually like the jacket MORE! Odd, huh? I think it’s because it makes the jacket feel less precious to me. I have in my head that I should probably replace it with something of better quality, so I now treat the jacket rather disposably, as in, I don’t mind beating it up a bit.

Anyway, I felt that the outfit was a success. Some people think that you need to be outlandish or “creative” or “bend the rules” in order to be truly stylish, but I don’t believe that’s true.
Sometimes the simplest outfits are the best-looking.
Stay tuned over the next couple of weeks for some exciting summer ensembles! There will definitely be seersucker and even a boater hat here or there!
Have a wonderful weekend!
