Outfit Of The Week 4/7/24 – 4/13/24
Usually, in my “OOTW” articles, I like to showcase outfits that I am, well, happy about. Outfits that I think illustrate some of the points I try to make on this site. This series is supposed to show how I “walk the walk” with the advice I dole out.
That being said, I think it’s important to also show the outfits where I think I missed the mark and why. Today features one such outfit.
This week has been really crazy at work and at home. Crazier than usual, that is. Usually, I have my day planned out pretty well, including what I intend to wear.
Most days, I’ll drive the boys to school, come home and work out, then work for a bit before showering and getting dressed. The craziness of this week has thrown my daily routine out of whack so my wardrobe was much less well-thought-out than it usually is.
The other day, though, I pulled a sweater out of my closet that I hadn’t worn in a long time. It’s an old navy blue, cotton sweater with a stand-up collar and button-up quarter-front.
I threw it over a t-shirt and wore some old, ripped jeans and leather boots.
My outerwear was an Orvis Harrington jacket and my brown, herringbone cap.
I thought I did a fairly decent job of looking somewhat put-together, however in looking back at the pictures there are a few things that I feel fell flat.
The first thing that sticks out to me is the saggy, grey t-shirt under my sweater. I decided against a collared shirt that day and I don’t like the way it looks. I even could have gone for a nicer white t-shirt instead of the one I chose. To me, it really draws the eye in a bad way.
The second thing I shouldn’t have done is go for the ripped jeans. Old, beat-up jeans are ok in the right context, like with a leather jacket or if you’re actually working in them (as I was earlier in the day), but pairing with a nicer looking sweater just made it look like I gave up halfway down my outfit.
Finally, I’m not a huge fan of the sweater and I think it’s one I might donate soon. I haven’t really worn any of my cotton sweaters much over the past couple of years mainly because I don’t really see a point to them. Anything a cotton sweater does, a wool or cashmere sweater does better. I’ll probably write a more in-depth article about that soon.
So, there you go! An outfit of the week that I will NOT repeat! Even though this one didn’t work out, I think it’s important for you guys to see, not only the peaks, but the valleys of the sartorial journeys of people like me.
Not every outfit is a winner and that’s ok. But make sure you can identify the reasons why a particular outfit didn’t work out so you can fix them for next time.
Have a wonderful weekend!
