Outfit Of The Week 12/29/24 – 1/4/25
As I promised last week, and what should be presumed given the date, this week’s edition of “OOTW” features what I wore last night for New Year’s Eve!
For my wife and me, NYE consists of us putting the boys to bed a little earlier than usual so we can have an at-home date night. I’ve written before about how we love to get dressed up and go out to dinner, but since we live in a very rural area far from family, we don’t often get the chance to do that. Our solution is to simply do our dates at home as often as we can.
I absolutely love our dates!
Last night, after an amazing dinner my wife prepared, we relaxed by the fire and watched The Twilight Zone (which is my NYE tradition).
Of course, we had to dress properly for dinner!
I don’t have to tell you that NYE requires a tuxedo, so that is what I wore. I have two tuxedos. One is a midnight blue, shawl-collar tux and the other is a black, peak-lapel tux. Last night, I chose to wear my shawl.
What surprised and delighted me so much about wearing this particular tux was how well it fit! I got this suit ten years ago to wear at my rehearsal dinner the night before my wife and I got married. There have been times over the years where I drifted out of shape and wasn’t able to comfortably wear it, but I am now at a place, physically, where the tux fits better than it did a decade ago! Thank you, wood-chopping!
Out of all the little bits and bobs that make up a traditional black-tie rig, my favorites from this outfit are my cufflinks (which I forgot to get a picture of), my watch, and my bow-tie.
The cufflinks are silver and have my initials engraved on them. My watch is my black Bulova I wore on my wedding day.
The bow-tie is a beefy, velvet tie that I think looks excellent with the shawl-collar jacket. I wouldn’t wear it with a more stately peak-lapel jacket, as the laid-back vibe of the velvet tie would clash with the feel of that style of jacket.
Oh, I also got some shots of my homburg! Since we stayed home, I didn’t have anywhere to wear it, so I put it on, walked outside to take some pictures, and then came back in the house and took it off.
It was a wonderfully enjoyable evening, all around!
Happy New Year!
