Outfit Of The Week 2/22/26 – 2/28/26

This week’s edition of “OOTW” features an outfit I wore for a recent date night with my beautiful wife!

We were visiting my in-laws and they agreed to watch the children (as they always graciously do) while my wife and I went out to dinner. Even though we do at-home dates as much as possible, that never dulls the shine of a real, honest-to-goodness, out-of-the-house date!

Since we were at my in-laws’ house, my outfit options were limited. I always keep a jacket, trousers, and a pair of shoes at their house so I don’t have to travel with them, but that means that when we’re visiting, I am limited to a navy blazer and tan pants. Not the end of the world, because there’s hardly a more classic combination.

I kept things simple with a white shirt. My tie was one I haven’t worn in… geez, I don’t even remember the last time I wore this tie. I got it many years ago and it just never was one I reached for too often (or really at all, it seems!).

I guess I always felt like the overall color of the tie was a bit light for my taste. I tend to prefer dark, solid ties to light, patterned ties, so that might be why this tie never really spoke to me.

But I like shopping my own closet and wearing things outside of my normal rotation! Honestly, I really enjoyed wearing this tie so I’m happy I decided to go with it for the evening.

Since, the walk to the restaurant was chilly, I needed some form of outerwear. Again, since we were traveling, I didn’t have a proper overcoat, so I wore the only jacket I brought with me: my leather flight jacket.

Of course, this is the “incorrect” choice of outerwear with this outfit. I know that. Even though the jacket fits comfortably over my blazer, the hem of the jacket hits my waist, which means my blazer sticks out underneath it. Obviously, not the ideal look… but I was warm on the way to the restaurant! Sometimes practicality really does trump fashion.

Overall, the night was amazing! We had a decadent dinner at a table near a cozy fireplace and then sat at the bar for an after-dinner drink. Nights like these are really special!
