Outfit Of The Week 9/6/26 – 9/12/26
This week’s edition of “OOTW” features an outfit I wore today for some chopping!
You guys know that chopping wood is my favorite activity. It’s the best exercise I have ever done. Not only that, but I get to play with an axe and wear a big hat! What’s not to love?!
Anyway, the reason I needed to chop today was because it was very windy the other day and a tree got blown over. That tree was leaning precariously over my driveway, so I needed to remove it.
I threw a rope over it, hauled it down, and then chopped it up. My sons even got in on the chopping action!
It was an incredibly fun afternoon and I am so happy my kids joined me!
For this endeavor, I wore a t-shirt and jeans. I tucked in the t-shirt, as I prefer to have the hem of my shirt contained close to my body rather than flapping around while I am swinging an axe. I also find it protects against bug bites. Also, at one point, I slipped while securing the rope to the tree and fell backwards. If my shirt wasn’t tucked in, I might have scratched up my torso on the gravel. Luckily, I had my shirt securely tucked, so I was fine.
My footwear consisted of my steel-toed, Carolina-brand, logger boots. That choice should surprise no one, given the activity in which I was engaged. I really like wearing loggers. The aggressive tread and pointy heel provide excellent traction on uneven terrain. And the steel toe provides peace-of-mind while I am working with a sharp, heavy tool. But honestly, I find the steel toe most useful for pushing the logs into position more so than for stopping an errant axe blade.
My hat was my black, Stetson Open Road. I love this hat for outdoor work. Stetsons are great hats for the money. I’ve been wearing this hat a lot for chopping since my wife bought it for me last year. Stetsons in the Royal Deluxe felt tend to get pretty floppy and soft after a while and I really like that about them.
Even though I love wearing jackets and ties, I equally love wearing beat up boots and cowboy hats. I feel that sometimes guys think they need to pick one kind of menswear “niche” and if they dabble in anything else, they are somehow not being “authentic”. It’s not true. Pick the clothes for the adventure at hand!
Now I am going to go relax in front of the fire.
