Outfit Of The Week 3/29/26 – 4/4/26

Want to know what really sucks? Hitting your shin bone with a hatchet!

The other day I was cutting down and limbing some saplings on my property. Well, after about 90 minutes I got a little too careless and ended up bashing my leg. Luckily, I only suffered a big bruise and nothing more serious!

On that note, this week’s edition of “OOTW” features what I wore for some strenuous, outdoor work in the cold and snow.

First of all, isn’t it weird that it’s still periodically snowing? It was like 65 degrees yesterday and this morning I woke up to find the ground was covered in white.

Par for the course for this time of year.

Anyway, my outfit consisted of my wool flannel Filson shirt (which has become indispensable from October through April), my L.L. Bean field coat (or barn coat, if you like), and my Akubra Federation IV fedora (as it was precipitating pretty heavily while I worked).

I’ve said it before, but the Akubra Fed IV is probably, along with the Stetson Temple, the best off-the-rack fedora on the market. It’s an absolute tank and can be worn either casually (as demonstrated here) or formally. I’ve worn it in inclement weather numerous times and my head is always bone dry afterwards.

The more I wear my L.L. Bean field coat, the more I love it. I bought it about ten years ago and it just gets better and better with age. It’s like the American equivalent of a Barbour jacket, but with a little more muscle.

I always find it funny when I see posts on style sites where a rich dude takes a picture of his $10k Rolex while he’s golfing at some resort and is like “This watch handles anything!” as if it’s some amazing feat of engineering that his watch can withstand a couple hours of moderate movement. Here’s my answer to that…

Overall, my outfit provided the perfect amount of warmth from the layering without being too heavy or restrictive.

Now that the snow is melting I am looking forward to getting outside more. I just need to wait for my leg to feel a little bit better!

Have a wonderful weekend!
