Outfit Of The Week 4/28/24 – 5/4/24

Now that spring is feeling a bit more like spring, we are in that weird transitional period where the mornings and evenings are cold, but the middle of the day can be quite warm.

Oh! And the bugs are coming back! Yuck!

Anyway, spring (as with fall) is an excellent time for every internet clothing weirdo’s favorite thing… casual, light outerwear!

The piece I am choosing to highlight in this week’s edition of “OOTW” is my denim jacket from Levi’s.

Now, I’ve written before (in my “The Case Against…” series) about denim jackets and how I really don’t think they’re worth buying if you live in a part of the country that sees any precipitation. But because it’s hanging in my closet, I wanted to give it as much of a chance to grow on me as possible, which is why I wore it for this outfit.

The day was bright and sunny, so my demands on the denim jacket were fairly light. One thing I like about the jacket is the fact that it has so many large pockets, which is great for when you’re wrangling children.

Under the jacket, I wore my J. Peterman rugby shirt, which is an excellent choice for transitional weather (spring or fall).

My pants were a pair of old Lands’ End khaki chinos I bought ages ago when I was at my heaviest bodyweight.

Because of that, they are quite roomy, which I have been liking the look and feel of. Pants are trending in the baggier direction, and while I am not a fan of following trends, they can be helpful if you have a questionably-fitting piece in your wardrobe. It allows you to feel a bit more confident wearing it out and about since it will look current.

My boots were my L.L. Bean work boots. I have been thinking that I really need to give these a shine. I don’t really mind that they look so beaten up, but I want to preserve the leather for as long as I can.

My watch was my Lorier Zephyr on the tan strap, which I think looks great against the blue jacket.

My hat was my brown, tweed newsboy from J.J. Hat Center in NYC.

Overall, this was a really good outfit for taking on-camera work calls, as well as running errands around town. It was exceedingly comfortable, but still looked well-thought-out. That weird middle bit between casual and formal is sometimes the hardest place to live when it comes to clothes since nothing is well-defined. That is why I like to highlight those kinds of outfits in this space.

As the weather warms up, I’ll start to highlight things like madras, seersucker, and linen. Stay tuned!

Have a wonderful weekend!
