Outfit Of The Week 3/23/25 – 3/29/25

This week’s edition of “OOTW” features a suit that I bought in 2020 right before the pandemic hit. The suit was supposed to be for my sister-in-law’s and brother-in-law’s wedding later that year. Unfortunately, the initial tailoring of the suit was hilariously bad and I didn’t feel comfortable (given the pandemic) going back into a tiny shop in New York City to get it adjusted.

So, the suit hung in my closet for five years, unable to be worn.

Recently, though, I got a ton of stuff tailored, including that suit! I have never worn this suit in public and now that it’s adjusted properly, I am looking forward to doing just that.

The pictures you see are from the first time I put on the suit since having it altered. I am very pleased with it!

Normally, I am a 42 Regular in jackets, but this jacket is a 44, since the 42 was cut a little too slim for my taste. The slightly larger size of the jacket and the ample break at the hem of the trousers gives the suit a really appealing classic silhouette.

The suit is blue and the shade falls somewhere between navy and “airforce” blue. I already have two proper navy suits, so the brighter shade of this suit is a welcome addition to my wardrobe. While the lighter blue has a bit of a summery feel to it, it’s not SO vibrant that the suit would look odd if worn in the colder months (or in the evening, for that matter). It’s a blue suit without screaming “Summer Suit”.

Circling back to the hem of the trousers… I opted for cuffs instead of plain hems. I’ve been getting cuffs on almost all my smart trousers in the past few years since I like how the cuffs add a bit of weight to the bottom of the pants. The cuffs keep my pants from getting hung up on my calves (since I always wear very tall socks). The picture below does not show the extent of the trouser break as I had to lean over to get the picture which drew up the hems slightly (but you can still see the cuffs).

As for the width of the cuffs, I always go with one-and-a-half inches. I know it’s fashionable to do two inches (or more) but when it comes to proportions “middle-of-the-road” is always the best way to go. Those big, fat cuffs that are all the rage now will look dated in a few years.

For the sake of the pictures, I grabbed the first shirt I could reach, which was a striped oxford weave from Charles Tyrwhitt. The purple grenadine tie was also from Charles Tyrwhitt.

For my shoes, I almost always wear black with suits. I know it’s popular to wear tan shoes with blue suits, but that causes people to look immediately at your feet since the shade of the shoe is so much lighter than the suit. If you want people to look at your face, then wear shoes that don’t draw their attention.

All in all, I am really happy with this suit. I wish I could have worn it at my in-laws’ wedding, though.

Oh, and I desperately need to clean my mirrors!

Have a wonderful weekend!
