Outfit Of The Week 4/27/25 – 5/3/25

For this week’s edition of “OOTW” I have decided to show an outfit that I had slated for jury duty.

I actually didn’t need to go, but I thought it would be fun to show you guys what I WOULD HAVE worn.

Any sort of court appearance calls for a conservative suit and tie. In this case, the suit, tie, shirt, and shoes are coincidentally all from Charles Tyrwhitt.

The suit is charcoal grey in CT’s classic fit. I actually need to get the waist taken in on this suit, as I have had it for many years and bought it when I was a bit heavier. Regardless, it still fits well enough to look good. I am using suspenders in these photos, as the trousers are tailored to accommodate them.

The weave of the suit is “end-on-end” which basically just means that white threads are mixed in with the grey threads which creates a very subtle textured appearance up-close but just looks plain grey at more than a few paces.

The navy grenadine tie is one of my favorites. I love grenadines as they look excellent with conservative suits and even rougher tweeds, given their texture. I find them very versatile, even though some people maintain they should only be worn formally.

This tie is a little strange in that in order to get a decent-sized knot, I need to tie it with the back blade a little longer than the front. Even when doing that, the knot is still quite small. I could tie a Windsor knot or a double four-in-hand to remedy that problem, but I don’t really like the looks of those knots. So, I just deal with my tie blades being uneven. It’s something I choose not to think too much about. My jacket is usually buttoned when I am standing anyway, so no one would notice.

My shirt was a simple, white poplin and my shoes were black oxfords.

The day was a little rainy and chilly in the morning, so some light outerwear would have been required. Enter my tan trench coat from Brooks Brothers.

This coat has been a real workhorse for me over the years and has accompanied me on not only daily commutes, but on vacations and work trips, as well. It has a removeable wool liner, which makes the coat useable almost year-round.

My hat was my beloved, grey, Stetson “Temple” fedora. I’ve said it before, but Stetsons and Akubras are very good hats for their cost. They aren’t super expensive and they hold up very well. I use this grey one for when I am wearing a jacket and tie since the color and style lean a bit more formal than something that was, say, brown with a thinner band, for example.

So, even though I didn’t actually need to go sit on a jury I still got to play dress-up for a few minutes.

Have a wonderful weekend!
