Outfit Of The Week 4/19/26 – 4/25/26

It’s always special when my wife and I get a chance to have a date night. As you guys are well-aware, we do at-home lunch dates every weekend, but we rarely get a chance to have a real, honest-to-goodness, out-of-the-house date night at an actual restaurant.

I have spoken before about this. We live in a very rural area and we are not particularly close in distance to relatives (for babysitting). That means that visits to restaurants are few and far between.

Thankfully, whenever we visit my wife’s parents, they graciously agree to look after our kids for an evening while we get dinner and drinks.

In order to make it as easy as possible for my in-laws, my wife and I get the kids fed and put down to bed before we leave. That way all the evening’s “work” is out of the way and my in-laws don’t have to worry about the stress of the kids’ bedtime routine, which you dads know, can sometimes be chaotic.

Basically, my wife and I appreciate the fact that her parents look after the kids while we have a nice night out and we want to make sure we make it as easy as possible for them.

So, the other night we got dolled up and had a lovely dinner out! The outfit I wore is this week’s edition of “OOTW”.

My outfit consisted of the navy blazer, tan trousers, and loafers I keep at my in-laws’ house for specifically this purpose. When we’re traveling, I just like to pack one weekender bag. I don’t like to pack a separate garment bag with my nicer clothes, so I find it more convenient if I just keep the jacket/pants/shoes at their house (so I don’t have think about it).

So, that leaves the shirt, tie, and pocket square.

For my shirt, I chose a striped, spread collar shirt from Charles Tyrwhitt. While traveling, I like to pack a non-iron shirt since it, unsurprisingly, doesn’t wrinkle in my bag. I went with the subtle pattern because none of the other items in the outfit had patterns and I usually prefer to keep patterns to a minimum.

My tie was also from Charles Tyrwhitt and it was a lovely, purple, grenadine tie. I usually bounce between navy and burgundy ties, so a purple tie is a nice change of pace. Grenadine ties are definitely my favorite ties.

As for my pocket square… I almost always opt for a plain, white, linen square. Very rarely does a colored or patterned square look better than a white linen, in my opinion. But, I like simplicity.

As we were putting my sons to bed before we headed out, my son said I looked nice. I thanked him and said it was important to get dressed up when out on a date with one’s wife. He asked me why. I said because getting dressed up shows respect to the woman you’re with and shows you have respect for yourself. I then asked him, “Doesn’t Mommy look beautiful?” to which he replied, “Mommy always looks beautiful!”

Dinner consisted of an amazing seafood dish and some wine. All in all, a splendid evening!

Have a wonderful weekend!
