Outfit Of The Week 6/23/24 – 6/29/24

This week’s edition of “OOTW” is actually a collection of outfits I wore over the last week.

My wife and I took the boys to see some car racing in upstate New York for a few days. We stayed in a large house with my in-laws. My wife and I are not into racing, but my brother-in-law has made it a bit of a tradition for his family, and this year they invited us to come along.

It was a lovely weekend and our boys thoroughly enjoyed watching real racecars.

I always enjoy traveling, from a sartorial perspective, because the limited choice (whatever’s in my bag) means I don’t have to think too much about what I put on each day. It also creates memories which are then associated with whatever I was wearing that day, which causes me to appreciate my clothes even more than I already do.

The forecast for the weekend was hot. I knew we would be at the races, but I also wanted to plan for some extra activities, like hiking, that I suspected would probably pop up.

For my shirts, I went with a handful of short-sleeved, button-front shirts as opposed to t-shirts. I find that not only do they look nicer, but they don’t get as funky in the hot weather since they’re a bit more airy and stand away from your body a little better than a regular t-shirt does.

My shirts consisted of a striped cotton, a seersucker, a madras, a blue linen, and a white linen.

For my pants, I had a pair of jeans, some khaki, 5-pocket pants, and a pair of linen pants.

Footwear consisted of my trusty leather boots and a pair of old, navy, Sperry boat shoes.

I brought two hats. One was my Stetson Roadster. I wanted a wide-brimmed felt hat since there were multiple days where rain was in the forecast. I also brought along my beloved Panama hat, considering how hot it was going to be.

As far as formality, I knew I wouldn’t have to worry about getting “dressed up” on the trip, since we were all staying in a house (with a pile of kids) and wouldn’t be going out to dinner or anything. However, if we did, I could have easily worn my linen pants, boat shoes, and any one of my shirts and would have been fine in pretty much any restaurant.

All in all, it was a great weekend and a very nice respite from work.

Have a wonderful weekend!
