Outfit Of The Week 3/9/25 – 3/15/25

Spring is rapidly approaching which means the days of sweaters and tweed are dwindling.

I was in the city the other day for an obligatory office visit and that day’s outfit is this week’s “OOTW”.

What a beautiful day it was! Clear and cool in the morning and sunny and (not too) warm in the afternoon. I took advantage of the agreeable weather by going for a short mid-day stroll around Midtown.

My ensemble choice was a variation of my standard Business Casual Uniform (and one of my “Ghost Clothes” outfits).

My jacket was a partially-lined, brown tweed from Charles Tyrwhitt which features a small, houndstooth pattern. I love the colors in this jacket and I find the burgundy overcheck especially appealing.

My sweater was a green, merino v-neck from Orvis. The green went especially well with the earthy tones of the jacket, I felt.

My pocket square was a silk and wool blend from Poszetka. This is a great all-around color combination for me because it goes with pretty much all my tweeds and sweaters (which make up the majority of my cold-weather wardrobe). I don’t like to wear too many patterns at once, but this square provides just enough visual interest without being overbearing (especially when worn with a patterned jacket).

My shirt was a white OCBD from Lands’ End which provided a nice contrast with the darker jacket and sweater.

My pants were simple, khaki chinos (also from Lands’ End) and my shoes were burgundy loafers. You guys are going to see this pants-and-shoes combo a lot in the warmer months ahead.

This outfit makes me so happy! Outfits like these are why I react so incredulously when I hear people say that classic menswear is uncomfortable.

Uncomfortable?!

I could wear this outfit to bed!

There are usually three culprits that cause men to think classic menswear is uncomfortable. One is the necktie, but that’s because many men wear shirts with too-tight collars and then cinch up their tie too much. Of course that’s going to be uncomfortable!

The second culprit is a tailored jacket. Again, this is a fit issue. If a jacket’s too tight, it will obviously be constricting and unpleasant to wear. A full-cut jacket with a bit of drape, however, feels like a hoodie.

Third is shoes. Like everything else, shoes shouldn’t be uncomfortable. If they are, they don’t fit well. Get a different pair. They don’t have to be expensive.

It appears that the forecast is calling for a wide range of temperatures as well as some precipitation over the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned!
