Outfit Of The Week 12/7/25 – 12/13/25

It’s definitely that time of the year again!

This week’s edition of “OOTW” features what I wore on our family outing to get our Christmas tree!

It took us a few years to find a good place to get trees. I don’t like just going down to the hardware store parking lot. I want an experience.

Luckily a few years ago my wife found a great spot not too far from us. They have ACRES of trees. Unless fields of perfect trees. They have employees zooming around on 4-wheelers waiting to help you cut down the tree and haul it back to wherever your vehicle is parked.

Oh, they also have a little gift shop and give free hot chocolate to the kids. There is usually more than one friendly dog loping about.

For this annual tradition, the only choice for clothing is ultra casual. It usually takes a little while to find a suitable tree. That involves traipsing through snow and sometimes mud. It’s cold and windy. Once we get home, I need to saw branches off the bottom and haul the tree into the house.

So, utility above all else was the name of the game!

Cue my logger boots, barn coat, blanket flannel, jeans, and Stetson.

You’ve seen these boots numerous times over the past year. They’re really great, functional, work boots. For a day like this day, they were perfect, as their thick, aggressive soles and sharp heels kept me from slipping on uneven ground.

The barn coat is the classic L.L. Bean “field coat”. This is my cold-weather “beater” coat that I use for pretty much all outdoor activities like roughhousing with the kids, shoveling snow, or chopping wood.

Even though the coat is casual, it still looks pretty good over a sport coat. It’s kind of like the American equivalent of a Barbour jacket.

The blanket flannel (which is hard to see in these pictures) is a nice, heavy, cotton flannel from Lands’ End. I am a huge fan of their Flagship Flannels and this one is of similar quality, but a little thicker and warmer.

The jeans are… the only pair of regular jeans I own. I have a couple pairs of flannel-lined jeans but it wasn’t cold enough for those on this particular day.

Finally, my hat was my (relatively) new, Stetson Open Road. I wrote a review of it a while back and commented on how it wasn’t all that water-resistant out-of-the-box. I ended up treating it with some felt hat protector spray and I am happy to report that it worked! I have worn the hat in rain and snow and it has repelled both satisfactorily.

The brimmed hat was a good choice on this day as the wind and flurries picked up a bit.

The tree we ended up getting was about ten feet tall! Our living room ceiling is sloped so it can accommodate a big tree. We seem to go bigger and bigger each year!

I am looking forward to the festivities in the weeks ahead and I hope you are too!

Have a wonderful weekend!
