Outfit Of The Week 5/11/25 – 5/17/25

This week’s “OOTW” features an ensemble I wore into the office on one of the first truly warm days that I needed to be in the city.

The weather was actually a little weird that day. It got up over 70 degrees, but it rained sporadically throughout the day. That meant I needed to dress business-casually for warm weather… but also protect myself from the rain.

I didn’t have my umbrella on hand, so I needed to wear some outerwear. I could have worn my Harrington jacket or my Barbour but those would have made it so that I wouldn’t have been able to wear a sport coat.

I decided to wear my tan trench coat from Brooks Brothers with the wool liner removed. For my hat, I was going to wear my linen cap, but, due to the rain, I decided to wear my wool newsboy.

I took a mid-day walk and definitely felt a little warm, but it wasn’t too bad.

For my sport coat, I wore a blue, check jacket in a wool/silk/linen blend from Brooks Brothers. This was the first time I wore this jacket to the office and only the second time I wore this jacket in public. The first time was six years ago! I did wear it last month, but that was only in the house for a dinner-date with my wife.

I’ve mentioned a few times before about how I’ve gotten a bunch of stuff tailored recently and this jacket is one of those pieces. It’s a really versatile jacket. It’s clearly a spring/summer jacket, given its color and material, but it doesn’t scream “SUMMER” the way a seersucker or madras does. Because of that, I find I can wear it for a larger portion of the year without it looking out of place.

The pocket square I chose was an orange-and-blue square that I got at Men’s Wearhouse ages ago. There are some squares that, I find, are better suited to certain seasons, given their colors. This one feels like spring.

Since the jacket was light blue, I decided to wear a white oxford shirt (instead of blue) in order to provide some contrast between the jacket and shirt.

My pants and shoes were my usual combination of khakis and loafers.

I love being able to create completely different looking outfits, while keeping my pants and shoes the same, with only a handful of shirts and a few jackets. It really shows that you don’t need as much stuff as you think you do.
