Outfit Of The Week 10/12/25 – 10/18/25
As promised last week, this week’s edition of “OOTW” is a touch formal-leaning.
This article also marks FS’s four-year anniversary! I am so incredibly thankful for all of you! Last year at this time I wrote about how it’s more important to celebrate accomplishment instead of time. I still believe that, and marking four years of Father Style means I have kept a consistent posting schedule over that time, which is a big deal considering all the other demands I have on my time (which is typical for a working dad). But keeping this site going gives me immense satisfaction.
The outfit I’d like to feature today is one I wore recently to the birthday celebration of a good friend. The celebration was out-of-town (for us) so my wife and I booked a hotel and were able to have a child-free evening, which was lovely.

We got into town around lunchtime but the party didn’t start until the evening, so we bummed around town with another good friend of ours and got food and drinks.
We actually ended up walking across town to the party, which was about four miles total.
So, there were a few things to take into consideration when planning my outfit. Here is it…

My outfit had to be comfortable to travel in. I also had to wear comfortable shoes for lots of walking. Neither of those things are big deals since my clothes and shoes are comfortable anyway. I have written before about the myth that classic menswear is uncomfortable.

The pants actually have more break at the hem than this picture shows, but they rode up a little when I bent over to take the picture.
I was going wear a thick tweed jacket and wool tie, but my wife was wearing a black dress, so I wanted to up the formality of my outfit a bit. I didn’t want to wear a full suit since it would have been out of place during our mid-day jaunt and the evening party. I decided to wear my dark navy and burgundy checked jacket from Charles Tyrwhitt. This jacket, even though it’s a check pattern, feels a little more formal than my other tweed jackets because of its dark color and relatively smooth texture.

With it, I wore a blue, spread collar shirt (instead of an oxford button-down) and a burgundy, grenadine tie (instead of a wool tie). Incidentally, this tie is the same one I wore a few weeks back. A burgundy tie really is a versatile staple!
My pants were wool instead of the cotton khakis I was originally planning on.
All told, I feel like this outfit struck a nice balance between formal and not-too-formal. I was happy I had a thicker jacket on, too, since it started to rain a little on our walk to the party.
We had a lovely day and we were so thankful we got to spend time with our friends. My beer even told me it loved me!

Have a wonderful weekend!
