Outfit Of The Week 10/5/25 – 10/11/25

After it was about 80 degrees this past weekend, it feels like fall has ACTUALLY arrived (just in time for this week’s edition of “OOTW”)!

It does this every year, doesn’t it? It gets really nice and cool at the start of September and I think “Oh, it looks like it’s cooling off for good!” only to have the temperatures soar one more time in early October.

This morning was about 48 degrees which meant it was perfect chopping weather!

I’ve mentioned a million times in this space that my favorite hobby is chopping wood. It’s the most effective and enjoyable exercise I have ever done. It’s most enjoyable in the cold weather, since there are no bugs!

Long-time readers of this site will recognize the wool shirt I am wearing. My wife bought it for me from Filson a while back and it has become my “wood chopping shirt”. Even when it’s really cold, this shirt does a great job of keeping me warm even when I am drenched with sweat.

I also have only ever cleaned this shirt once (last spring). Even though I work out in it almost every day, it never gets smelly since I just toss it over the bedpost after each chopping session. Wool truly is a remarkable material!

I want to point out the hat I am wearing! I think this is the first time I have featured this hat on this site. It is a black, Stetson Open Road made of royal deluxe felt. My wife bought it for me as a birthday gift this past summer and I have been wearing it a lot around the house doing yard work and sitting by the fire pit.

Stetson’s royal deluxe felt is their “dress” felt (as opposed to their western felt) so the hat is a bit more pliable than some of their more cowboy-leaning hats. I really like how soft it is. You can see how the crown has conformed to my head (and to my hand, from grabbing the crown) in the front.

I’ll probably write up a proper review of this hat at some point soon (all my other product reviews can be found here), so I won’t go into too much more detail now. But I really like this hat and you can expect to see it featured in this space more and more.

Down below, I wore a pair of olive-colored, cotton, 5-pocket pants (which I didn’t get a picture of). They are pretty ragged looking and I only wear them for working in the yard.

My boots were, of course, my steel-toed loggers from Carolina I bought last fall.

I’ve really put them through the paces over this past year (as you can see from the pictures). I obviously do all my chopping in them, but I also wear them hiking and on pretty much all family outings to places like museums and fairs. They have held up very well and I am still satisfied with my purchase.

If this week was a little too casual for you, next week will feature a comparatively more formal ensemble, so stay tuned!
